New Board Member

The Montauk School Board has voted to appoint Sarah Roberts to fill the vacant school board seat created when Tom Flight joined the East Hampton Town Board earlier this month.

Ms. Roberts, who was one of four people who applied for the position, will serve through at least May 21, which is the date of the annual budget vote and school board election.

In an interview this week, Ms. Roberts, a parent of three children and prior PTA volunteer, said she is excited to have the chance to serve her community.

“I’m filling the very big shoes of Tom Flight, and I want to make sure that I am adding value if and when and how I am needed,” she said. “It’s a good opportunity to peek under the hood of the car, so to speak. . . . I’m very interested in the great work that’s being done.”

Donations for Springs

The Greater East Hampton Education Foundation, which raises money for grants that benefit children across East Hampton Town, has donated more than $7,500 to support programs at the Springs School.

Four separate grants were awarded Tuesday, going to Whitney Reidlinger, an occupational therapist; Victoria Hoffman and Melissa Knight, who teach fourth grade, and Vicki Firemark, a special education teacher.

The donations will cover a new set of Kindle e-readers, reading materials reflecting the diverse school community, a vocational training program, and more.
