Many years of diligent academic efforts have paid off for Nicholas Cooper and Leah Fromm, who have just been named East Hampton High School’s 2024 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively.

Nicholas excels particularly in science, music, math, and foreign languages, always challenging himself with “the most advanced and rigorous courses that we offer,” said his guidance counselor, Jenna Pierro, in a letter of recommendation. “Nick is a student that is hard to come by. What impresses me most about Nick is his passion towards learning. He is continuously looking to grow and expand to be the best that he can be.”

He has taken 15 advanced placement courses, is a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist and member of the Science National Honor Society, and has received perfect scores in multiple music festivals leading up to back-to-back appearances in the New York State School Music Association All State choir in his junior and senior years. When he graduates in June, his diploma will carry an “Advanced Designation With Honors” and certification of mastery in math and science. He is a standout tennis player, has interned with the South Fork Sea Farmers, and participates in multiple musical programs at the East Hampton Presbyterian Church. He has contributed more than 150 hours of volunteer service to the community.

Leah is “an ambitious, successful young woman who is disciplined, and also very humble,” said her guidance counselor, Lynne Yardley Brown, in a recommendation letter. She is president of the senior class and student council and vice president of the National Honor Society, Interact Club, Century Club, and Bonac Beachcomber newspaper club. She has taken 18 A.P. courses and will receive the A.P. Capstone distinction when she graduates. With a research project concerning hydroponically grown lettuce, she has participated in the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair and has received the High Honors Award from the Long Island Science Congress. She is also an athlete and musician who has accumulated more than 250 volunteer service hours.

“She has proven herself to be a dedicated, passionate, independent young woman,” Ms. Brown wrote. “When Leah sets her mind to something, she goes for it 100 percent.”
