The Level Playing Field Foundation, which first began granting scholarships to East Hampton High School students two years ago to defray the costs of college counseling, college visits, and test-prep tutoring, awarded another round of scholarships on Saturday, valued at roughly $3,800 per student.

This year’s recipients are two juniors, Jocelyn Garcia and Riley Reville, and three sophomores, Angie Castillo, Maya Taveras, and Caleb Buestan. Described as high achievers, they will work with Barry Raebeck of Wainscott, a private college-counseling consultant.

“They all have monster schedules packed with A.P. and advanced courses, and they’re all getting great grades,” Christopher Kelley, the foundation’s president, said. “But at the same time, they’re smart enough to know that that isn’t necessarily all it takes, and getting some assistance in the college search process, and getting it for free, can be a game-changer.”

The first several recipients of the scholarships, granted in 2022, are now freshmen at schools including Barnard College, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Virginia, and Harvey Mudd College. The fledgling foundation has granted more than $28,000 since it was established. More information can be found online at ehlpff.org.
