Pierson Names Top Two Seniors

Wed, 05/29/2024 - 19:19

Isabelle Caplin has been named the 2024 class valedictorian at Pierson High School and Chad Federico the salutatorian, the Sag Harbor School District announced Tuesday.

Both students in Sag Harbor from kindergarten all the way to senior year, as well as varsity athletes, Isabelle and Chad are enrolled in multiple International Baccalaureate classes, the most rigorous courses offered at Pierson.

Isabelle, who is editor in chief of the Pierson literary magazine, is planning to major in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania next year. She was a captain of the East Hampton High School swim team (a shared team) and also swims with the Hurricanes at the Y.M.C.A. East Hampton RECenter. She is an alumna of I-Tri, the nonprofit organization that empowers middle school girls with triathlon training and character education, and later became a mentor for younger I-Tri participants.

Chad is an accomplished musician, playing the trumpet and French horn for many years, and is a veteran cross-country runner and baseball player. In school he is particularly drawn to math, which will serve him well in college: He plans to attend Rice University in Texas and major in sports analytics and statistics.

Chad is involved in the theater program at Pierson and the nonprofit organization Safe in Sag Harbor.

Pierson’s top two seniors will graduate with the rest of their peers on Pierson Hill on June 29.
