With the goal of helping parents bring up children who can cope with unexpected change and challenges, the Ross School will kick off a new series of educational talks about parenting on Monday.
The first, titled Raising Resilient Children in the Digital Age, begins at 10:30 a.m. on the Upper School campus at 18 Goodfriend Drive.
"Featuring leading experts in child psychology, mental health, and wellness, the series is designed to support all East End parents and families as they navigate new challenges and opportunities presented by our increasingly complex, digital world," the school said in an announcement.
The speakers will be Dr. Samantha Boardman and Dr. Aliza Pressman. Dr. Boardman is a psychiatrist based in New York City who helps clients "find strength within stress and wellness within illness. She is passionate about cultivating vitality, boosting resilience, and transforming full days into more fulfilling days." Dr. Pressman, a developmental psychologist and author, has expertise in pediatric and family well-being. She is an assistant professor in the division of behavioral health in the Department of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, and a co-founder and co-director of the hospital's Parenting Center.
Emily Tisch Sussman, the newly elected chairwoman of Ross's board of trustees, host of the award-winning "She Pivots" podcast, and a mother of three Ross students, will be the moderator. "With a passion for amplifying women's voices, she shares the stories of those who have successfully pivoted in their personal and professional lives, sharing how they turned challenges into formative opportunities," the school said.
The session, which quickly reached capacity seating, is accepting wait-list sign-ups, online at bit.ly/3ykCOqq. Those who would like to ask questions have been asked to submit them ahead of time through the Ross School's social media channels.
