On the Paumanok Path

Project Most Meets Paumanok Path

Project Most will host an exploration hike on the Paumanok Path on Saturday at 3 p.m. The hike will follow the path from where it intersects with Route 114 in East Hampton toward Cedar Point, and participants will learn about the native lichens and mosses of the South Fork. According to the University of New South Wales Sydney, mosses are integral components of a healthy ecosystem, especially in the temperate climates of the East Coast, where they soak up and distribute heavy rainfall evenly throughout the soil system.

Those interested should meet promptly at 3 on the east side of Route 114, between Deer Path and Edwards Hole Road and take tick spray and a water bottle. They should also dress in appropriate clothing for a casual hike, including long socks. Fall program enrollment for Project Most opens soon. More information is available at projectmost.org.— Henry Koepp
