Turtle Search

Andy Sabin, president of the South Fork Natural History Museum’s board of directors, will help kids of all ages learn about snapping turtles and even try to find some on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the museum.

“Of ancient lineage, the snapping turtle — which can grow to a length of three feet from head to tail and weigh as much as 70 pounds — will be the main subject of this annual adventure with Andy,” SoFo said on its website.

There’s also a good chance participants will see eastern painted turtles and stinkpot turtles. Admission to the event costs $10 per child and $15 per adult, and is free for museum members.

Also on Saturday, the museum’s Young Environmentalists Society, a club for kids 10 to 16, will meet at 10:30 a.m. On Sunday, there will be a pop-up pond life exhibit at the museum from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The club and the pop-up exhibit are both free to attend.
