Movie Time
January is the perfect time to settle in for a movie, and for kids and teens who want to see something on the big screen, there are several options this week.
A horror movie yet to be announced will be shown tomorrow at the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton at a 6 p.m. screening that’s for grades six and up only. The movie will be rated PG-13, and “spooky snacks” are promised. On Saturday, the Montauk Library steps up to the plate with “Despicable Me 4,” rated PG, at 2 p.m.
At the Sag Harbor Cinema, this weekend’s Kids and Family Matinee will be the 1961 “West Side Story” directed by Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise and starring Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer, with music composed by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Times can be found on the cinema’s website.
For Makers and Doers
If you’re a maker, a crafter, or a foodie, the libraries and the South Fork Natural History Museum have you covered this week. At the Hampton Library, there’s a chance for kids 8 to 11 to make mini magnets tomorrow from 4 to 5 p.m., and a Chinese New Year craft on Friday, Jan. 24, at 4 p.m.
Participants in Tony Valderrama’s nature art workshop on Saturday at 1 p.m. at SoFo in Bridgehampton will use Model Magic to sculpt creatures and their habitats. This one is for kids 5 and older and teens and adults too. The cost is $15 for adults or $10 for children, but members may attend for free. Advance registration is required.
Hands-on activities at the East Hampton Library will include an alcohol-ink tile coasters craft for high schoolers from 3:30 p.m. until closing time on Tuesday. Also that day, kids 6 to 10 can use magnetic panels to make life-size forts and other constructions at 4 p.m. and every Tuesday through February. Sign-up is required.
Finally, spring rolls both sweet and savory will be on the menu in a Friday, Jan. 24, program at the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor. Things get cooking at 4 p.m.
Dancing Dogs
Diana Frohman and her dancing golden retrievers will turn up the fun at the Amagansett Library on Saturday at 1 p.m. More high-energy action happens tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at the East Hampton Library in the form of a Bop-It tournament for grades six through eight.
On Tuesday at the Hampton Library, grades six and up can learn the basics of the role-playing board game One Night Ultimate Werewolf at 4 p.m.
Preschool Fair
Parents of toddlers who are considering preschools can learn about the offerings in and around Sag Harbor during a preschool fair at John Jermain next Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Representatives of the schools will be on hand to talk about programs, costs, and schedules.
