Community Service Hours

High school students who need community service credits will have several opportunities to earn them this week at the East Hampton Library. First, on Monday, there’s a Teen Advisory Board meeting at 3:30, offering a chance to tell the librarians what teens want at the library. Teens can write thank-you notes to postal workers on Tuesday at 3:30, help decorate the young-adult room for Valentine’s Day on Tuesday at 4, write postcards to senior citizens on Wednesday at 4, and pick up a kit of “kindness valentines” to work on at home on Friday, Feb. 7, starting at 3. Each of the above will count as one hour of community service.

For younger kids, there’s a frog craft on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for ages 7 to 10, and a button snowflake craft for ages 3 to 6 next Thursday at 4. Kids in sixth through eighth grade can stop by on Friday, Feb. 7, for Nintendo Switch games and free snacks starting at 3:30.

In Montauk, a librarian will help children and their adults make no-sew fleece blankets on Saturday at 11 a.m. Advance registration is required.

In Bridgehampton

Chocolate-covered pretzels will be the treat of the day when kids 3 to 7 take to the kitchen at the Children’s Museum of the East End in Bridgehampton on Saturday. The cost is $40, including admission to the museum afterward, or $20 for members; registration ahead of time is required. The program will start at 10.

Across the street at the South Fork Natural History Museum on Sunday, Rebecca Rogers will lead families as they make bird feeders to attract feathered friends in winter. The workshop starts at 10:30 a.m. and costs $15 for adults and $10 for children. Members can attend for free. All are asked to register ahead of time.

Gaming and crafts are on the schedule for the first week of February at the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton. A “creation station” set up on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will have supplies for imaginative art and craft projects. On Monday, kids 8 to 12 can join in a STEAM activity with snacks provided from 4 to 5 p.m. Jackbox gaming for grades six and up happens on Tuesday at 4 p.m. On Friday, Feb. 7, the focus will be inventors and crafts to celebrate Black History Month at 3:30 p.m. This one is for ages 5 to 7. The library has asked for preregistration.

Movies for Kids

The Sag Harbor Cinema’s Kids and Family Matinee on Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. will be a classic from the silent era: Charlie Chaplin’s “The Kid.” Chaplin directed, starred in, and even composed the score for this 1921 movie. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $15.50 for kids 12 and younger.

Next Thursday at 4 p.m., the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor will show “Cool Runnings,” from 1993 and based on the Jamaican bobsled team’s first appearance in the Winter Olympics. Popcorn will be served.
