From Podcasts to Bop-It

For high school students interested in podcasting, there’s a club for you at the East Hampton Library and it meets next on Tuesday at 4 p.m., when participants not only can learn some of the basics but also get community service credits for helping to create a library podcast. There’s another chance for community service hours on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. for high schoolers who make birdfeeders with pine cones and peanut butter.

OLA Connect is spearheading the creation of a middle school survival guide, and sixth through eighth graders who show up to help tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. will get pizza and community service credit.

The library will celebrate National Sticker Day — it’s a thing — with drop-in sticker design for high school students on Monday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Snowman cupcake decorating is on the menu for ages 4 and up on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Next Thursday at 4 p.m., little ones ages 3 to 6 will make watercolor mitten crafts.

Rounding out the week, next Thursday at 4 p.m., there will be a Battle of the Books meeting for readers in high school who are interested in taking part in the countywide book trivia contest. On Friday, Jan. 17, it’s a Bop-It tournament at 3:30 for ages 11 to 14.

Registration is required for all programs and can be done online, in person, or by phone.

Art Nanny in the House

The Art Nanny will be in charge during two programs at the Montauk Library on Saturday. At 11 a.m., younger kids will do winter polar bear ColorShield painting, and at noon it’ll be moose winter scenes for kids in fourth grade and up. Registration is through the website.

Winter Crafts

Bird feeders will be the project during a family fun day at the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then, next Thursday at 4, kids in third through fifth grade will learn how to make snow globes.

Friday, Jan. 17, is National Popcorn Day — also a thing. Popcorn and a variety of toppings will be available from 4 to 5 p.m.

Cubes, Bots, and Beads

On Saturday Project Most will have three programs to keep younger kids busy. In a STEAM workshop at 11 a.m. kids 3 and 4 will build with sugar cubes. The robotic blocks called Cubelets will be the focus of a workshop for ages 5 to 12 at 1 p.m. “Students will work on engineering, design, collaboration, and computational thinking while solving problems and exploring all the ways to reinvent their robot constructions,” according to a class description. Then, at 2 p.m., that same age group can stick around for a bracelet-making workshop.

Programs cost $25 and happen at the Most Holy Trinity school building on Meadow Way. Registration is at projectmost.org.
