SCOPE Education Services honored three people connected to the Amagansett School at its annual school district awards dinner on Monday at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook. Russell Schaefer, a bus driver, was recognized with a support staff award, Maureen Cooper, a teacher’s assistant, got an award for teacher service, and Kristen Peterson, a school board member, was honored with a school board service award.
Mr. Schaefer joined the Amagansett School staff in December 2008. “Whether driving for field trips, mowing the grounds, or helping move classrooms, he’s always ready to assist,” the school wrote in announcing the award. “Russell knows every child
by name and genuinely cares for all students, bus riders or not.”
Ms. Cooper started at the school as a special education teaching assistant in 1997 and became an elementary teacher in 1999. After a break to “focus on her own children,” she returned as a teaching assistant. “She embodies the professionalism, dedication, and passion for education that all educators strive to achieve,” the school said.
Ms. Peterson has served in various roles on the school board, including as president. “Her commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment has left a meaningful and lasting impact, exemplifying the values of care, leadership, and community that define the Amagansett School,” the announcement said.
