East Hampton High School’s science research symposium returns next Thursday evening at 6, and it is open to the public. The symposium gives students an opportunity to present the scientific research they have been working on.

The school’s seniors will begin the program in the auditorium, giving talks about their projects, before it shifts to the cafeteria for a poster session where all 73 students will present their research.

The symposium also gives seniors and juniors a chance to work with professional scientists as mentors to assist them in their research. Ava Tintle, the 2025 salutatorian, has been working with Samantha Prince, the valedictorian of the class of 2020, who is studying medicine at Yale University.

Other highlights include Lindsay Boyle, who is studying the nitrogen footprints of high schools on Long Island, mentored by Dr. James Galloway of the University of Virginia, and Ryan Darrell, studying the risk factors of Alzheimer’s disease in African-Americans through different stages of adulthood. He has been mentored by Dr. Omonigho M. Bubu of N.Y.U. Langone Health.
