With two trustee terms under his belt, which he served in the late 1980s to early ‘90s, David Talmage, a Republican, is seeking to return to the board.
Among his priorities, he said, are beach access rights and “maintaining water quality so people want to go to the beach and go shellfishing.” Another concern, he said, is what is happening to the once-thriving scallop fishery; in the last three years scallops have largely died off before harvest season even began.
Mr. Talmage, a longtime Springs resident, moved to Maine at one point but returned here in 2018. He was elected to a term on the Springs School Board many years ago. He is a retired computer programmer who served two years in the Army.
Like some of his G.O.P. running mates, Mr. Talmage wants to see a better balance of political representation on the board of trustees. “A lot of the things are moving in the right direction, but it’s good to have a variety of viewpoints and opinions, and right now the board of trustees seems to be dominated by one party. It’s never really good when one party runs something for any length of time.”
