Anna Throne-Holst, a former Southampton Town supervisor and the Democratic Party's 2016 candidate to represent New York's First Congressional District, has endorsed Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn in a bid for the Democratic nomination in 2022.
Ms. Throne-Holst is the second former nominee to endorse Ms. Hahn's candidacy. Nancy Goroff, the Democrats' candidate in 2020, has also backed her.
"Kara Hahn has spent a decade delivering on critical issues for Suffolk County families, from protecting our environment to tackling the opioid crisis," Ms. Throne-Holst said in a statement issued by Ms. Hahn's campaign. "Her record matched with her life experiences — as the daughter of a volunteer firefighter, as a young single mom who escaped domestic abuse, or as a social worker saddled with student debt — make her a uniquely qualified candidate to advocate for members of this community in Congress."
"It's clear to me that Kara's building a campaign to win in NY-01 and that her story of perseverance and hard work is going to continue to resonate with voters across this district," she continued. "I'm proud to endorse her candidacy and believe Kara's passion for her community and determination to rise to any challenge set her apart in this race."
"I'm honored to have Anna Throne-Holst's endorsement," Ms. Hahn said. "She's an example of what it means to be a solutions-oriented leader and someone who always put progress before politics in her time as supervisor. I admire her passion for the issues and commitment to making positive change in her community and around the world. I value her guidance as we continue to ramp up this campaign to take back New York's First Congressional District."
Suffolk Legislator Bridget Fleming has also announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination. Representative Lee Zeldin, who won the seat in 2014 and has successfully defended it in subsequent elections, is the Republican Party's presumptive nominee for governor of New York State.
