East Hampton Village Mayor Jerry Larsen announced on Monday that Village Hall will be closed to the public starting Thursday and through the end of the year due to an increase in coronavirus infections in Suffolk County.

Village board meetings, which have been held in person since September, will also return to being held virtually, he said.

Village Hall will be closed on Wednesday for the Veterans Day holiday, and then remain closed to all but essential workers. The decision was made "out of an abundance of caution," Mayor Larsen said.

East Hampton Town Hall has been closed to the public since the town declared a state of emergency in March. Public access to town offices has been provided by appointment, when necessary.

There has been a steady uptick in cases in the county in recent weeks, and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone noted at a press briefing on Nov. 4 that the infection rate has not been below 1 percent since Oct. 21. On Saturday, according to the most recent available data, the county reported 259 new cases, and a 2.7 percent infection rate.
