The Government Finance Officers Association, which represents public finance officials in the United States and Canada, has awarded the Town of East Hampton a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting for its fiscal year 2018 comprehensive annual financial report.
The certificate is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and, according to the association, “its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”
The financial report, the association said in a letter and press release, met “the high standards of the program,” including “demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure,’ ” according to a statement issued by the town on Tuesday. The town’s finance division, which prepares the report, has received the award in each of the last six years.
“Our finance team has again been recognized for its excellent work on behalf of the residents of East Hampton,” Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc said in the town’s statement. “Complementing our conservative budgeting and sound management practices, consistently careful and accurate financial reporting is one of the cornerstones of the town’s strong financial footing.”
At the town board meeting on Tuesday, Mr. Van Scoyoc congratulated Len Bernard, the town’s budget officer, and Charlene Kagel-Betts, the chief auditor.
