East Hampton Town Updates Via Text

Wed, 03/11/2020 - 22:29

East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc said that advisories related to COVID-19 will be posted to the town’s website, ehamptonny.gov, and reminded residents that they can sign up for alerts via text message.

In response to a question about whether the spread of coronavirus might force cancellation of events such as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Montauk, scheduled for March 22, he said that town officials would consider such steps should a sharp increase in the infection rate occur.

“One of the primary steps would be to lessen or eliminate the number of public gatherings,” he said. “We talked about public meetings being remotely accessed, maybe just having town board members with a video feed. Instead of public comment in person, have a call-in number.” Residents would be encouraged to forgo gatherings, he said.
