Alec Baldwin Endorses Fleming

Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming has gained three more endorsements of her bid to be the Democratic Party’s nominee to challenge Representative Lee Zeldin in New York’s First Congressional District. Last week, the actor Alec Baldwin, who lives in Amagansett, as well as Kathryn Casey Quigley, Southold Town’s Democratic chairwoman, and Southold Councilwoman Sarah Nappa added their support to Ms. Fleming’s candidacy.

In a June 10 fund-raising email, Mr. Baldwin referred to his portrayal of President Trump on “Saturday Night Live,” “and when I started portraying that satirical version of Trump, I never thought that my character would start to look tame compared to the Trump we see in real life.”

“Now more than ever, we need real leaders like Bridget in Congress who can stand up against Donald Trump's divisive and dangerous agenda in Washington,” Mr. Baldwin said. “My favorite thing about Bridget is that I know she’ll set Trump straight on her first day in Congress. In fact, she’s already making up for Trump’s failures on the federal level by writing and passing legislation here on the local level to address issues of environmental protection, public health, and the economy.”

Without naming him, Mr. Baldwin criticized Perry Gershon, a candidate who lost to Mr. Zeldin by four percentage points in the 2018 midterm election, “the historic ‘Blue Wave’ year for Democrats!” he said. “I’m supporting Bridget because I know she can win races on Long Island — because she’s done it five times already.” Ms. Fleming is a former Southampton Town councilwoman.

Carpenters Council for Zeldin

The North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters has endorsed Representative Lee Zeldin for re-election in New York’s First Congressional District. The council represents 28,000 members.

“Not only has Congressman Zeldin fought hard to ensure our economy gets back on its feet in the wake of Covid-19, he has stood up to protect our rights by vehemently opposing National Right to Work and been instrumental in battling efforts to undermine prevailing wage laws,” the council’s Anthony Villa said in a statement issued by Mr. Zeldin’s campaign. “He has consistently delivered for Long Island, and will continue to do so.”

The SMART Transportation Division of the Long Island Rail Road and Plumbers Local 200 previously endorsed Mr. Zeldin’s bid for a fourth term in Congress.
