State Aid Now Available for Landlords With Unpaid Rent

Thu, 10/14/2021 - 10:03

As of last Thursday, landlords seeking to recoup up to 12 months of unpaid rent incurred during the Covid-19 pandemic can apply for aid from the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.

The state has made $125 million available to landlords who were ineligible for a federally-funded rent relief program because their tenants either did not apply for aid or vacated the residence without having paid past-due rent, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office.

To be eligible, landlords must own units leased at or below 150 percent of fair market rent for the region, and have documented past due rent accumulated after March 1, 2020. Priority is given to landlords who own a building with 20 or fewer units and who apply within the first 45 days. A link to the Landlord Rental Assistance Program application is available on the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance’s website.
