More Wind Farm Work Ahead

Thu, 02/24/2022 - 09:37

Onshore construction work for the South Fork Wind farm continues this week.

The contractor for the developers, Orsted U.S. Offshore Wind and Eversource Energy, is continuing vegetation removal along the Long Island Rail Road track, along which the wind farm’s export cable will travel on a subterranean path to the Long Island Power Authority substation near Cove Hollow Road in East Hampton.

Test pitting, to confirm the location of existing utilities, also continues along the in-street project route of Wainscott Northwest Road, Wainscott Stone Road, Sayre’s Path, Wainscott

Main Street, and Beach Lane. The export cable will make landfall at the ocean beach at the end of Beach Lane.

The contractor also planned to begin saw-cutting, making shallow cuts in the roadway to outline the trench area to be opened, along Wainscott Northwest Road, beginning at the L.I.R.R. intersection, to prepare for excavation. Also this week is the start of trenching and installation of a conduit on Wainscott Northwest Road between the railroad’s intersection and Bathgate Road.

This week’s agenda additionally includes site preparation at the interconnection site off Cove Hollow Road, to be used as a staging area.
