Democrats Launch Campaign

Thu, 06/15/2023 - 11:00

The wildfires in Canada that darkened skies over the South Fork and posed a hazard to human health last week prompted the East Hampton Town Democratic Committee to postpone its campaign launch, which was to take place last Thursday. The kickoff party has been rescheduled for Friday night from 6 to 8 at the Clubhouse in Wainscott. Admission is free and the family-friendly get-together will offer a cash bar, passed appetizers, and live music.

Councilwoman Kathee Burke-Gonzalez, the deputy supervisor, is the Democrats’ candidate for supervisor. Her running mates are Councilman David Lys, who is seeking re-election, and Tom Flight, who is seeking a seat on the town board. David Filer is running for town justice. Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc and Councilwoman Sylvia Overby are not seeking re-election.

Preceding the East Hampton Democrats’ campaign launch, a fund-raiser for Ann Welker, a Southampton Town trustee and candidate for Suffolk County Legislature in the Second District, happens tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the Southampton Publick House. Legislator Bridget Fleming, who is not seeking re-election, and former Representative Tim Bishop of New York’s First Congressional District will be the hosts. Tickets are $100, $75 for committee members.
