Deemed "high achieving" under the New York State Every Student Succeeds Act Plan, the John M. Marshall Elementary School in East Hampton has been named a Recognition School for the 2018-19 school year.

The State Education Department acknowledged the excellent progress that John Marshall students have made in English language arts, math, and other core subjects. Factors such as low chronic absenteeism and measurements of college, career, and civic readiness are taken into account. Also, at least 95 percent of the children in grades three, four, and five took part in the standardized tests in English and math, which is another requirement for Recognition Schools to receive accolades.

"This is an example of true teamwork, dedication, and commitment," Beth Doyle, the school's principal, said in an email to her teaching staff.
