On Saturday, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital will host a car seat safety check from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 330 Meeting House Lane. Certified technicians from Southampton Town and Southampton Village Police Departments will be checking infant, convertible, and booster seats free of charge.

According to Southampton Town police, 70 percent of child safety seats are installed incorrectly and car crashes are the second-leading cause of death for children under 1 year old. Meanwhile, they are the leading cause for kids and young adults ages 1 to 24, according to the National Safety Council.
