Friends of Allan Weisbecker will gather Thursday afternoon at 3 at Montauk's Ditch Plain Beach for a paddle-out in his memory, with an exhibition of his photographs to follow at 6 at the 484 Gallery on West Lake Drive.

Mr. Weisbecker was a longboard surfer, author, and all-around Montauk legend who died in September of 2023 in California. He was the subject of a posthumous profile in East magazine earlier this year.  Among his notable publications were the books "Cosmic Banditos" and "In Search of Captain Zero," the latter an autobiographical work.

"This is a chance to celebrate his brilliance and curse his demons, to talk story and honor his talent," the gallerist Dalton Portella, who is organizing the paddle, wrote on Instagram earlier this week.
