John Ryan Sr. and John Ryan Jr. learned Monday that they can go ahead with lifeguard and junior lifeguard training at the Y.M.C.A. East Hampton RECenter's pool as of Saturday.

That day and through June 19, those 9 through 15-year-olds new to the junior lifeguard program will be evaluated, trained, and tested in Saturday afternoon sessions from 2 to 2:45 and from 3 to 3:45.

The trainees have been asked to provide their own masks, caps, and goggles and to register online through ehamptonny.gov. They need only attend one session each Saturday, said the Ryans, adding that returning junior lifeguards "do not have to take this training — they are qualified for our 2021 summer program."

Further, lifeguarding skills, conditioning, and training will be offered to a maximum of 24 participants ages 15 and up from Saturday through April 10. Registration is at ehamptonny.gov, and the fee is $50. Masks, caps, and goggles are required.

The still-water lifeguard certification course is to start at the Y on April 17.
