Anglers Wanted for Montauk Fishing Tournament

The Fred Golofaro Memorial Montauk Surf Fishing Classic returns to Montauk Point State Park this weekend.

Sponsored by The Fisherman, the New York State Natural Heritage Trust and the Montauk Anglers Club, it will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. and conclude Sunday at noon, with fish to be "hooked and landed from the beach, surf, jetty, bank, or pier" from the westernmost point of Napeague State Park east to Montauk Point, according to the contest rules. There will be prizes for the three largest bluefish and the three longest striped bass at an awards ceremony on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. First place is $1,000, and second and third-place prizes are new fishing equipment.

There is an entry fee of $20, payable in person by Saturday morning at 9 at the Montauk Anglers Club on East Lake Drive, which is also the official weigh-in station tomorrow from noon to 10 p.m., Saturday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 5 a.m. until the contest closes.
