A nature exploration to see winter sea ducks off Montauk Point with Frank Quevedo for adults and children 10 and older will start on Saturday at 9 a.m. The program is free for members of the South Fork Natural History Museum in Bridgehampton, otherwise $10 for adults and $7.50 for children up to age 12. The fee includes museum admission that can be used at a later date. Binoculars and a field guide to birds have been suggested. For directions and reservations, the number to call is 631-537-9735.

On Saturday at noon and Sunday at 1 p.m., a Montauk Point State Park naturalist will lead a three-mile hike from the state park office in the lower parking lot to see shore birds and seals. Hikers have been advised to dress warmly and arrive 10 minutes before the hike begins. The cost is $4 per person. There is no charge for children under 3. Space is limited and reservations are required at 631-668-5500.

Also this weekend: The East Hampton Trails Preservation Society will host a hike in the Napeague Pines at a moderate pace on Saturday at 10 a.m. Hikers will explore the winter beauty of the pines east of Amagansett, a secluded world of pitch pines, sand, and little wetlands.

Those interested in participating have been asked to meet at the bend on Napeague Meadow Road, about one-half mile east of its intersection with Lazy Point Road, and from there they will carpool to the starting point. Hikers have been advised to take food and liquids for the three-to-four-mile excursion. Rick Whalen can be called at 631-267-6608 or 631-275-8539 for more information.
