The East Hampton Lions Club is hosting a blood drive on Tuesday at the American Legion in Amagansett.

Blood collection agencies in many states, including New York, are testing blood donations for Covid-19 antibodies and collecting convalescent plasma to help current coronavirus patients recover more quickly, according to the American Red Cross.

Tuesday's blood drive in Amagansett is from 11:45 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Whole blood, platelets, and plasma can be donated.

Donors must wear masks and their temperatures will be taken, and, in case of a recent Covid-19 diagnosis, a donor must be symptom-free for 14 days or more. Donors are ineligible if they are currently recovering from Covid-19 or are under quarantine restrictions.

In general, people must meet a number of additional criteria to be eligible to donate blood. They must be at least 16 years old, must weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health.
