To mark National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, the Southampton Town Police Department will be collecting unused, unwanted, and expired medications at its substation in the Bridgehampton Commons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Liquids, syringes, sharps, and thermometers are excluded from the drop-off service.

The goal, police said in an announcement, is to prevent the misuse of prescription drugs and to discourage people from flushing drugs down the toilet, which can harm the environment.

Drop-offs are free and confidential. More information can be had by calling the Police Department at 631-702-2254.

There will also be a drop-off site at East Hampton Town Hall on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Over-the-counter drugs, sharps, and business and professional waste will not be accepted.
