As part of an ongoing celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Amagansett Village Improvement Society is sponsoring its first photography contest, "Capture Amagansett." All have been invited to participate and to "share the many wonders of Amagansett through the eyes of our community," said Shari Thompson of the society.

Those interested in entering have been asked to submit photos by email to [email protected]. Entries must be accompanied by the society’s official entry form, which is available on the AVIS website, keepamagansettbeautiful.com.

All photos must be taken in Amagansett and should be submitted in one of four categories: nature and wildlife, landmarks, the community, and Amagansett by the water. Entries will be judged by an independent panel on the basis of visual appeal, clarity, pictorial composition, and originality. Awards will be given to the top three photos in each category. The decisions of the judges will be final, and all photos will become the property of, and can be used by, AVIS.

The deadline to submit entries is April 24. Only one entry per photographer is permitted, and group entries are not allowed. Complete rules and additional information are on the AVIS website.

"Use your lens to show us your vision of what makes our hamlet special," is the message from the society. "Aim, focus, shoot -- and capture Amagansett!"
