Backyard Barbecue for Edie Windsor Center

Tue, 05/24/2022 - 14:32
Edith Windsor

One of the first of many charitable events to come our way this summer, a barbecue party is to take place on Saturday at a private residence in Southampton as a benefit for Stony Brook Southampton Hospital's Edie Windsor Healthcare Center. The fund-raiser will be from 1 to 4 p.m., and tickets start at $125.

The center, located in Hampton Bays, supports the medical needs of the L.G.B.T.Q.+ community and provides care and prevention education for those at risk of contracting H.I.V. or who have been diagnosed with it.

Ms. Windsor, who died in 2017, was a prominent civil rights activist and part-time Southampton resident. She was the lead plaintiff in the Supreme Court case United States v. Windsor, which resulted in a landmark 2013 legal victory for same-sex marriage. Her wife, Judith M. Kasen-Windsor, will host the barbecue on Saturday.

Tickets and more information can be had by calling 631-726-8700, emailing [email protected], or visiting southampton.stonybrookmedicine.edu.

Deep History in Sag Harbor Headstones’ Restoration

While Captain Beebee’s headstone now sits pristine atop the hill next to the Old Whalers Church, the rest of the family’s six plots sit in disrepair. Recently, however, the museum received a $10,000 grant from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, which will allow for the restoration of the remaining headstones.
