BookHampton and libraries in East Hampton, Montauk, and Sag Harbor have announced their late-August and September reading selections.

Next up in the East Hampton Library's online short story discussion series is the work of Flannery O'Connor, the celebrated Georgia-born author, with "The Barber" and "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" on Monday at 5:30 p.m. For Sept. 12, the recommended reading is O'Connor's "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" and "The Displaced Person."

BookHampton book club members are reading "Elsewhere" by Alexis Schaitkin for their Sept. 13 gathering at 6 p.m. The book explores a community where girls become wives, wives become mothers, and some simply disappear. It follows a girl named Vera who wonders if she will be able to stay with her child or be chosen to leave as the mysterious task of motherhood approaches.

The Montauk Library's Classics book group has "Around the World in Eighty Days" by Jules Verne and G.M. Towle (translator) on its list for discussion via Zoom on Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. An email can be sent to [email protected] to receive the Zoom link.

At the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor, the Morning Book Club's September selection is "River of Gods" by Candice Millard. The discussion will take place on Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to noon.
