This winter, Southampton Town is offering a still-water lifeguard certification course that can qualify a participant to serve at a bay beach and provide the basics needed to move on to an ocean lifeguarding program.

The three-day class will take place from Dec. 19 to 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Red Creek Park on Old Riverhead Road in Hampton Bays. It is open to both residents and nonresidents who are at least 15 years old. The cost is $90 for residents and $110 for nonresidents.

The town is already hiring lifeguards for the 2024 recreation season, including positions at Foster Memorial Long Beach in Noyac. Pay starts at $19.50 per hour. The registration website is southamptonrecreation.net.
