A Benefit for Afghan Women

A Stand With Afghan Women benefit happens Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the meetinghouse of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Fork in Bridgehampton.

Milad Yousofi is flying in from London to play the rubab, the national instrument of Afghanistan, and traditional food will be prepared by local Afghan chefs. Arts and crafts, rugs, textiles, jewelry, and clothing will be for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to Afghanistan. Emily Weitz of the Paper Fig Foundation, a women's advocacy group, will share stories of Afghan women.

Admission is by donation, and children will be welcomed.

Montauk Playhouse Work Will Be Done by June

Construction of the new aquatic and cultural spaces at the Montauk Playhouse Community Center is slated to be done by the end of June, according to Sarah Iudicone, president of the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation. The date for the public opening, however, is still up in the air.
