It's Time for Lighthouse Weekend in Montauk

Lighthouse Weekend will be celebrated at the Montauk Lighthouse on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Re-enactors with the Third New York Regiment will camp on the Lighthouse hill all weekend, with demonstrations of traditional pottery, Colonial toys and games, leather crafting, and knot tying. The Kings of the Coast Pirates will put on shows both days at noon and 3 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for those over 62, and $5 for children 12 and under. Children under 41 inches tall will be admitted for free.

The Quogue Wildlife Refuge will be at the Lighthouse with birds of prey next Thursday from noon to 2:30 p.m.

Participants in a Tuesday workshop at the Oceans Institute at the Lighthouse will learn about the role we play in reducing marine plastics while also making art from marine debris. Laura O'Shaughnessy-Swan will lead two sessions, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 12:40 to 2. Each is limited to 20 people; adults and children will be welcomed but those 10 and under must be accompanied. Registration is at by clicking here.

Rector of St. Luke's Takes Key Role in Coast Guard Chaplain Program

The Rev. Benjamin (Chaps) Shambaugh, who serves in the Coast Guard’s Auxiliary Chaplain Support program, became the branch chief of the Coast Guard’s Atlantic Area East on Jan. 1. In that role, he will oversee chaplains who care for Coast Guard members and their families from Canada to the Caribbean and in Europe and other areas abroad.

Deep History in Sag Harbor Headstones’ Restoration

While Captain Beebee’s headstone now sits pristine atop the hill next to the Old Whalers Church, the rest of the family’s six plots sit in disrepair. Recently, however, the museum received a $10,000 grant from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, which will allow for the restoration of the remaining headstones.
