Two Debates on Monday

Thu, 10/17/2024 - 13:10

The League of Women Voters is holding debates Monday between candidates for the First Congressional District and those vying to represent the East End in the New York State Senate. Both will be broadcast live on Southampton Town’s SEA-TV YouTube channel, where they will also be available for later viewing.

The State Senate candidates — Anthony Palumbo, the Republican incumbent, and Sarah Anker, a Democrat and former county legislator — will meet at 6 p.m. in a debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, Shelter Island, and the North Fork. The congressional candidates — the incumbent Republican Nick LaLota and his challenger, John Avlon, a Democratic author and political commentator — face off at 7:30 p.m. in a debate co-sponsored by leagues from Brookhaven, Huntington, and Smithtown.
