Trash to Treasures
Guild Hall’s Teen Arts Council has organized a cleanup at Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett on Saturday and will follow up with a fashion event using repurposed finds on Sunday. The cleanup will begin at 10 a.m. Gloves, buckets, water, and snacks will be provided.
Sunday’s free Recover, Repurpose, Recycle event at the museum from noon to 4 p.m. will incorporate materials found during the beach cleanup as well as clothing collected during a swap at Guild Hall earlier this month. Workshops on the schedule include denim painting, tote bag design, pin and patch making, and embroidery. Snacks and beverages will be served.
Movies and More
Movies, tote bags, and flower-inspired art are among the offerings for kids at the East Hampton Library this week. On Saturday, “Mary Poppins Returns” will be shown at 1 p.m. It stars Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt, as the Banks family’s favorite nanny, back to help the now-grown children after a family tragedy.
On Friday, May 24, when some schools will be closed thanks to unused snow days, the library will show “The Little Mermaid” at 2:30 p.m.
High school students do not need their own cameras to participate in a Polaroid photography program at the library on Tuesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Cameras will be provided, but advance registration is required.
Stenciled tote bags will be the craft of the hour during a workshop on Tuesday at 4 p.m. for grades six through eight.
There’s a bilingual Spanish-English story and craft time for ages 3 and up on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Next Thursday, kids 3 to 5 will explore Vincent van Gogh’s sunflower paintings and create their own sunflower collage in his style at 4 p.m.
Pre-Licensing Course
Older teens with valid learner’s permits can take the five-hour pre-licensing course required before scheduling a driver’s test on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton. Those wishing to participate must register in advance. A $50 cash fee will be due on the day of the course.
The library will host a karaoke showdown for grades six and up on Tuesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
A Battle of the Books informational meeting for students entering sixth through ninth grade in September will be held on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Suffolk-wide book trivia contest takes place over the summer.
