Whidbey Island, Wash. April 4, 2011 David, The Pugh family would like to briefly thank all of those who recently supported us following the death of my mother, Helen. While I have many specific notes of thanks to pass separately, I wanted to publicly acknowledge my appreciation to all the people, local businesses, and civic organizations that assisted me and my extended family during this difficult time. Large or small, all gestures of sympathy and support were appreciated — and will not be forgotten. As an active-duty serviceman for over 25 years, I have lived in many diverse locations. However, none of these places possesses the strong sense of family and community that exist on the East End in Montauk. While duty has prevented my family from living at home, the compassion and selfless acts of kindness we received over the last few weeks made it clear that I truly had never left home. It’s this type of hometown support that allows every serviceman, to include myself, to successfully meet our nation’s tasking. My many thanks and enduring respect again to all. Very respectfully, COMMANDER JOE PUGH United States Navy
