Leadership We Need

Springs

August 22, 2016

Dear Editor,

Lee Zeldin continues to do great things for Long Island’s environment, representing East Hampton. He prioritizes Long Island’s environment and natural resources. Congressman Zeldin’s Long Island Sound Restoration and Stewardship Act protects our waters and restore our coasts by providing millions of dollars from federal funding. He has fought against President Obama’s plan to cut funding to the sound and secured money for our waterways through the National Estuary Program. Our East End relies on the sustainability of these features. He has committed to make sure they stay as uniquely beautiful asossible.

Congressman Zeldin has pushed for reduced fishing regulations so that our anglers and local baymen can utilize the waters to their fullest extent. The EEZ Clarification Act, supported by many fishermen, will allow striped bass fishing in an area previously restricted. A similar bill (Fluke Fairness Act) will reform laws regarding fluke fishing to fit Long Island and its resources.

Between his push to save Plum Island from being sold by the government and his efforts to stop a plan to dump dredged waste into Long Island’s waters, Lee Zeldin consistently voted to protect what is important to us. He continues to show the leadership we need to represent our communities in Congress. I urge the people to support him this November.

Divisive and Dangerous

Springs

August 22, 2016

Dear David:

Lazy summer days are soon to end for most of us, but not for our First Congressional District Congressman Lee Zeldin, whose lazy logic in support of Donald Trump continues to confuse even his most ardent Republican constituents and his fellow members in the House and Senate. L.Z. was elected by the narrowest of margins and now seeks re-election on his “Vote for me, I’m a vet” platform, having accomplished zero, nothing, as a Tea Bag Republican whose congressional record is divisive, non-productive, and dangerous.

It’s an embarrassment to hear the veteran Lee Zeldin ask for our re-election vote, being one of the very few Republicans to vote against the bipartisan bill which increased the budget for our military and veterans. Why? Even the staunchly conservative Congressman Peter King voted yes. We gave Lee Zeldin the time to show us what he can do and he’s failed miserably. This won’t-do-anything congressman won’t do, this election year.

You can bet Anna Throne-Holst won’t deny benefits and budgets for our veterans and military. Anna Throne-Holst has a successful record of working together with divergent groups and can understand divergent ideas because the values she holds are those American values we all share, among them our love of country above party politics, understanding we are a nation of immigrants, faith in the common good, and the fervent belief that America is already great.

Tell lazy Lee Zeldin no, this election season, and vote for leaders who share our values and can meet and exceed the challenges of the 21st century. My family is voting for Hillary Clinton and Anna Throne-Holst this November because they know that the 21st century will be ours with AmeriCAN leadership, not RepubliCAN’T laziness.

Zeldin Is Doing His Job

Hampton Bays

August 12, 2016

Dear Editor,

I feel your editorial dated Aug. 4 was a cheap shot at Congressman Zeldin, through a comment made by Donald Trump in regard to all the publicity accorded the Khan family.

Speaking for me, Congressman Zeldin is doing his job. I have called his office a couple of times and they have always responded. More than I can say for his predecessor, Bishop.

I wonder if through the years your paper had done similar cheap shots at Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Barack Hussein Obama, or Timothy Bishop. I doubt it.

In regard to the “Mast-Head” column dated Aug. 11, what a bunch of bull. My information is gained both by Fox News and radio station WOR 710-AM. From what I gather, Hillary Clinton had more skeletons than the caves beneath the streets of Paris.

I hope and pray Donald Trump is elected our next president. I’m sure he will clean up the corruption incurred by both Republicans and Democrats.

Barack Hussein Obama has done a great job of dividing our country, and if Mrs. Clinton is elected, it’s going to be more of the establishment same. I consider myself an independent conservative. I know liberal Democrats have a fixation fomented by this boring media, i.e., ABC, NBC, CBS, The New York Times, and the other liberal papers.

Oh well, thank you for letting me vent. Don’ forget, we are all Americans.

Yours truly,

JOHN PAGAL

An Admirable Record

Springs

August 21, 2016

To the Editor:

Alex Miller’s attack on Congressman Lee Zeldin is full of the standard vitriol we have come to expect from the left, as well as the simple-minded “Trump bad, Hillary good” mantra. No mention of Hillary’s abysmal history of lies, frauds, illegalities, negligence, money-laundering, and just plain incompetence in office. Even her vicious attacks on the character and reputation of the women molested by Bill are apparently okay with Mr. Miller and evidently with Ms. Throne-Holst herself. Like every other Democratic politician, she has refused to distance herself from even this vilest part of Mrs. Clinton’s sorry record.

Congressman Zeldin’s votes against Obama’s radical agenda and extravagant spending are the greatest gifts he could bestow. I wish more of his fellow Republicans did the same. And his efforts on local issues like preserving Plum Island and passing the EEZ striped bass bill (Tim Bishop failed to get either bill out of committee) are remarkable for a first-term congressman.

And I laughed out loud at Mr. Miller’s characterization of Congressman Zeldin as “lazy.” Having worked as a volunteer on Lee Zeldin’s campaigns going back to his initial run for Congress in 2008, I can attest that putting in a day trying to keep up with Mr. Zeldin is a daunting experience.

I ask Mr. Miller, is it laziness that motivated Mr. Zeldin to earn a law degree at age 23? Was it laziness that moved him to join the Army and serve in Iraq, based near Saddam Hussein’s old haunts in Tikrit? Was he being lazy when he received a black belt in tai kwon do, winning a national title along the way? Is it laziness that induced him to stay in the Army Reserve, despite his many other commitments? Are his innumerable visits to all the communities of the First District a sign of laziness?

Lee Zeldin has an admirable record of personal achievement and an equally admirable record of service to his country, to his state, and to the community he represents. He is a devoted father and husband. He deserves to be re-elected.

Sincerely,

REG CORNELIA
