Wed, 01/22/2020 - 22:58

April 4, 1931-Jan. 18, 2020

Genevieve Frances Keyser of East Hampton, who had a long career as the head of communications for Winthrop Hospital in Mineola, died of heart disease on Monday. She was 88 and had been ill for about a year and a half.

Ms. Keyser was the mother of nine children, some of whom live here. She enjoyed knitting and painting ceramics.     Born in Brooklyn on April 4, 1931, to Harold Meyer and the former Margaret Brady, she grew up there and attended school there. Brooklyn was also where she met Francis Xavier Keyser. The two were married in October of 1950, and in 1958 they moved to Bay Shore, where they brought up their children. They moved to East Hampton about 20 years ago. Mr. Keyser died in 2003.

Eight of Ms. Keyser’s children survive her. They are Keith Keyser of San Juan Island, Wash., Karen Perkins of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Kathleen Berthel of Centereach, Margaret Keyser of Bayport, and Kenny Keyser, Kevin Keyser, Gregory Keyser, and Eileen McKee, all of East Hampton. A sister, Mary Stephens of Brooklyn, also survives. One of her children, Kerry Keyser, died before her.

Visiting hours are today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. A funeral Mass will be said Friday morning at 10:30 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery on Cedar Street.

East Hampton’s Mulford Farm in ‘Digital Tapestry’

Hugh King, the East Hampton Town historian, is more at ease sharing interesting tidbits from, say, the 1829 town trustees minutes than he is with augmented reality or the notion of a digital avatar. But despite himself, he came face to face with both earlier this week at the Mulford Farm, where the East Hampton Historical Society is putting his likeness to work to tell the story of the role the farm’s owner, Col. David Mulford, played in the leadup to the 1776 Battle of Long Island, and of his fate during the region’s subsequent occupation by the British.
