Ed Porco, Former Montauk Resident, Dies of Covid-19

Ed Porco, a former Montauk resident who had been living at Peconic Landing on the North Fork with his wife, Joan, died of Covid-19 on Tuesday at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.

Mr. Porco was a past president of the East Hampton Trails Preservation Society and a leader of Concerned Citizens of Montauk.

Eva Moore, the current president of the trails society, said in an email that Ms. Porco had also contracted the coronavirus and was in hospice care in Greenport.

The Porcos lived in an independent living apartment at Peconic Landing. His death was the first from that part of the complex.

In 1970 a trawler’s crew members were surprised to find a full bottle of Indian Hill bourbon whiskey in a trawl eight miles off the coast of Montauk, one of them declaring the “Prohibition stuff” to be “strong as hell.”
