Hazel M. King of Springs was a devoted homemaker who will be remembered as her two grandchildren's "number-one fan," her family said.
Mrs. King, who had been ill with cancer for six weeks, died on Sunday at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quiogue. She was 76.
She was born at Southampton Hospital on Oct. 6, 1946, to Thomas Bono and the former Hazel George. She grew up in East Hampton and graduated from East Hampton High School in 1964.
In October of 1965, she married Robert R. King, who survives.
Mrs. King loved "everything about the beach," her family said. She enjoyed ceramics, acrylic painting, and going out dancing with her friends.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, Mrs. King leaves two sons, Robert R. King Jr. and Thomas A. King, both of East Hampton. Her two grandchildren are Samantha King and Jenna King. Mrs. King had been very fond of her two older siblings, Joanie Rose and Richard Bono, both of whom died before her.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in East Hampton, with the Rev. Ryan Creamer officiating. Her family has suggested memorial donations to East End Hospice, online at eeh.org, or to the Springs Fire Department at 179 Fort Pond Boulevard, East Hampton 11937.
