May 24, 1935 - Sept. 18, 2022

Anne Jennett Edwards Kelsey loved photography, reading, and arts and crafts, but her favorite thing to do was spend time with family, her children wrote.

Mrs. Kelsey, who was 87, died of pneumonia on Sept. 18 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Mass.

A resident of Paxton, Mass., she had grown up in Amagansett and lived there for many years.

Mrs. Kelsey was born in Hampton Bays on May 24, 1935, to Carl R. Jennett Sr. and the former Marie Wescott. She graduated from East Hampton High School and on June 10, 1956, married George R. Edwards Jr. They had two daughters, Laurie and Deborah, and a son, Christopher Paul, who died as a newborn in 1961.

She was active in the Amagansett Presbyterian Church in the 1970s and 1980s, singing in the choir, serving as a deacon and elder, and taking great pleasure in visiting with the homebound elderly, her family wrote.

Her first husband died in 1978.

On May 21, 1983, she married Robert J. Kelsey. The two had been friends from an early age in Amagansett; Mr. Kelsey was her brother’s best friend growing up.

Mrs. Kelsey liked to take pictures of flowers, and she channeled her creativity with arts and crafts into greeting cards, bookmarks, and holiday decorations. Her love of reading propelled her to serve on the Amagansett Library’s book committee for some time. She enjoyed playing card games and outdoor games like cornhole and croquet with her children and grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Kelsey moved to Irving, Tex., in the early 2000s and to Paxton in 2020. He survives, as do her daughters Laurie Edwards Granitto of East Hampton and Deborah Edwards Hallen of Rutland, Mass. She also leaves three grandchildren, Jennifer Wood, Jacqueline Cobb, and Paul Granitto, and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas LaMonda, Noah LaMonda, Lilly Wood, and Jace Cobb. Her brother, Carl R. Jennett Jr., died before her.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family has suggested donations to the Paxton Fire Department Gift Fund, 576 Pleasant Street, Paxton, Mass. 01612.

Item of the Week: Prohibition Hooch

In 1970 a trawler’s crew members were surprised to find a full bottle of Indian Hill bourbon whiskey in a trawl eight miles off the coast of Montauk, one of them declaring the “Prohibition stuff” to be “strong as hell.”
