Mario Jose Stutterheim of Amagansett, a classical music announcer at WQXR, WNCN, and WBAI in New York City for over 40 years, died on July 10 at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quiogue. He was 82.

Mr. Stutterheim was born in Buenos Aires and grew up in Baltimore, where he developed an interest in ham radio and broadcasting. In 1990 he founded the M Street Journal, which ran until 2002.

On the East End, where he lived full time for nearly 30 years, he was involved with the board of elections, moderated talks at the East Hampton Library, and volunteered for Organizacion Latino Americana of Eastern Long Island.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren, who wrote that he “will be greatly missed.”
