March 9, 1933 - Aug 2, 2023

An English teacher and attorney in private practice, Robert T. Anker of East Hampton and Brooklyn Heights died at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital on Aug. 2. He was 90.

A jazz aficionado, he also enjoyed literature and traveling, his family said, adding that he will be remembered as “an amazing friend, husband, father, and grandfather.”

He and his wife, the former Enid Mason, whom he married on Jan. 17, 1963, spent every summer in Springs from 1969 to 1983, and then summered in East Hampton after that.

Mr. Anker was born in Brooklyn on March 9, 1933, to George Anker and the former Sarah Wolfson. He was drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Later, he earned two master’s degrees, in English and education, at Brooklyn College, and a law degree from Brooklyn Law School.

He taught at James Madison High School in Brooklyn while also practicing law for 20 years. When he retired from teaching, he continued to practice law until his death.

He is survived by his wife and their two daughters, Jennifer Marshall of North Wales, Pa., and Valerie Anker of Edmonds, Wash. He leaves four grandchildren, Rebecca Marshall of Philadelphia, Sarah Marshall of Newark, Del., William Marshall of New York City, and Kalen Hills of Edmonds.

On the Wing: Dawn Chorus in Spring
