Charged With Grand Larceny

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:38

A Hampton Bays woman who works for an agency caring for the elderly in their own homes was arrested yesterday morning by the East Hampton Village police on felony charges of grand larceny and possession of stolen property. According to the police, Chrisafia Dressler, 51, was caring for a Fithian Lane woman for the past couple of years. Starting in December 2015, she began stealing jewelry and silverware from the house of the woman she was caring for. Ms. Dressler would then hock the jewelry at Budget Buy and Sell, police said.

This continued, an item at a time, until June of this year. At that time, the alleged victim, whose name was not released by the police, went to find her jewelry to give it to her grandchildren and discovered that several valuable pieces were missing.

Rudy Migliore, an assistant district attorney, asked East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky to set bail at $5,000, “given the serious nature of the charges.”

Trevor Darrell, who was representing Ms. Dressler for the arraignment, countered by asking for a lower amount to be set. She has never been in trouble with the law, he told the court, adding that “she did surrender to the police, and has been fully cooperative.”

Bail was set at $2,500, and posted.
