Charged With Shoplifting

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:39

A Montauk man was arrested Friday night on two misdemeanor charges, petty larceny and possession of stolen property. According to East Hampton Town police, Richard A. Bauer, 38, went on a shoplifting spree at the 7-Eleven in downtown Montauk, stuffing his pants and pockets with various items.

Police said they found Mr. Bauer in possession of a package of Off bug repellent, a roll of aluminum foil, a container of Ronsonol lighter fluid, and five Ultra Chewy Bully Stick Dog Chews. Officers were in the parking lot investigating a possible drunk driver when the management alerted them to a possible theft.

Mr. Bauer was taken to the Montauk substation, where he was processed and released. He will be arraigned on May 11.

An Amagansett 18-year-old is facing two misdemeanor charges after hosting a party at which 10 under-age drinkers were said by town police to be consuming Budweiser and Corona beers. The Oak Lane 18-year-old’s name was withheld, as he is eligible for youthful offender status.

Police visited the site a little after midnight on April 8 after receiving a noise complaint from a neighbor, and determined that the youth was the one in charge of the premises. According to the charge, he did not end the party after being warned by police, who said they could plainly see teenagers drinking. Under county law, it is illegal to host a party where alcohol is being consumed by under-age drinkers. When the youth was told he was under arrest, he refused to be handcuffed, leading to a second charge of resisting arrest. He was released without bail later that morning after his arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court.

According to this week’s police log, a Springs woman was charged on March 23 with leaving her 4-year-old daughter alone for an extended period of time. The charge is a misdemeanor. Police said they found the child alone in an apartment on Montauk Highway, East Hampton, at about 4:30 in the afternoon, after receiving a complaint from a neighbor. Gabriella Hernandez, 24, was issued an appearance ticket, and is to be arraigned today.
