Thu, 05/23/2019 - 07:11

An Orange County man, Michael J. Lounsbury, 34, was jailed over the weekend in lieu of $10,000 bail following his arrest in downtown Montauk a little after midnight last Thursday. He faces multiple felony charges of driving while intoxicated and without a license.

East Hampton Town police spotted his Lincoln driving without headlights on South Emerson Street near the Sloppy Tuna, and said he failed to signal a turn onto South Edison. He was quickly pulled over: Police patrols are heavy in that area.

Mr. Lounsbury, who refused the breath test at headquarters, has been arrested over the years at least four times on drunken-driving charges, police said, and convicted at least twice. He refused the breath test at headquarters.

He was arraigned on Friday in East Hampton Town Justice Court, sent to county jail when he could not post bail, and released on Tuesday after a $30,000 bond was proffered.

Alena Brook Chetoka, 24, a fashion model, was arrested by East Hampton Village police Friday morning after her eastbound 2000 Range Rover turned onto James Lane and made a quick U-turn, causing the vehicle to hop the curb. She reportedly told police she had had one glass of wine a half-hour earlier. She was said to have failed a roadside sobriety test, and to have attempted to dodge the breath test back at headquarters by not blowing hard enough into the tube. However, according to Chief Gerard Larsen, even with an insufficient sample of air, her reading was recorded at .22 of 1 percent, triggering an elevated charge of aggravated drunken driving. She was released the next day.

Jorge R. Fajardo, 43, was arrested by Sag Harbor police Friday night after being pulled over in a 1997 Nissan pickup truck on Jermain Avenue. Police said he had swerved several times into the oncoming lane. At headquarters, his breath test was also recorded at the .22 mark, raising the misdemeanor charge he is facing to the aggravated level. A tradesman, he was released the next morning after posting bail.

Ruslan A. Sadyrbayev, 44, a Sag Harbor resident who told police there that he was in sales, was arrested a little after midnight on July 11. Police had received a call warning of a 2013 Nissan Versa driving erratically on Hampton Street. An officer who began tracking the car at Eastville Avenue reported that it swerved across the median and then onto the shoulder several times before being pulled over. Police said they found a small amount of marijuana in the car.

At headquarters, Mr. Sadyrbayev’s breath test produced a reading of .16, police said. He was released after posting bail.

Kyle Stuart Van de Bovenkamp, 21, a student at a Maryland college, driving a 2005 Ford pickup truck on the winding Old Stone Highway in Springs early Sunday morning, swerved back and forth into the oncoming lane before being stopped, according to police. His breath test reportedly produced a .12 reading. Noting his family’s long residence in Northwest Woods, East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky freed him without bail.

Andres Fernando Mejia-Guncay, 27, of Springs was arrested early Saturday morning. He was driving a 1992 Ford on Abraham’s Path when he ran a stop sign at its intersection with Springs-Fireplace Road, police said. His breath test was recorded at .12.

James A. Granniss, 59, of Hampton Bays, driving a 2016 Nissan east on Main Street through downtown Montauk the night of July 11, was seen swerving across lane lines, leading to a traffic stop near South Essex Street. Police said the plumbing contractor’s breath test produced a .15 reading. He was released after posting $200 bail.

New York State police arrested an East Hampton man early Friday morning on a D.W.I. charge. Luis G. Vizhnay-Cardenas, 43, was pulled over on County Road 39 in Southampton, where he was arraigned later that morning.

Long Days on the Fire Line In Orange County
