Injured In Pool Dive

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 07:12

A visitor to Amagansett was said to have suffered a spinal injury when he dived into a pool at the start of Labor Day weekend.

Kyle Reiter, a 36-year-old from Seattle, was pulled out of the pool at 175 Cross Highway-to-Devon Road on Friday at about 1:50 p.m., according to Capt. Chris Anderson of the East Hampton Town Police Department. Guests at the house said they had seen him dive in and not emerge, he said. Police could not confirm the type of injury suffered.

Mr. Reiter reportedly did not have a pulse and was not breathing when pulled from the pool. Those who saw the incident started cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

John Glennon, the first assistant chief of the Amagansett Fire Department, was among the first to arrive. A police report indicated Mr. Reiter was coughing up water when police arrived. He was treated at the scene for a possible spinal injury and taken to East Hampton Airport, where the ambulance met a medevac helicopter that took him to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Mr. Reiter was listed in serious condition on Tuesday evening, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Captain Anderson said police believe it was likely that Mr. Reiter hit his head when he dived into the pool.

They Know When You've Been Bad or Good

East Hampton Village is now home to 14 Flock license plate reader surveillance cameras, which amounts to one for every 108 full-time residents, if you go by the 2020 census data. They're heralded by local police for aiding in enforcement and investigations, but they use a technology that has proven controversial nationally with those concerned about civil liberties.
