Joyride Ended With a Bang

Ryan J. Albie was asleep on his boat, the Hatteras, docked at Offshore Marina on West Lake Drive in Montauk on Aug. 13 when, at about 3:55 a.m., he was awakened by the sound of the boat hitting something. He found four young men, who ran when confronted, on the 45-foot craft.

East Hampton Town police later reported that the four had boarded the boat, started it, and reversed it, in an attempt to take it for a joyride. Instead, it struck the dock.

Police apprehended Darragh Tomas Moloney, 23, Luke Peter Clarke, 22, David Patrick Fitzgerald, 22, and Alan John Minihane, 22. All four gave addresses on West Lake Drive. 

They were charged with criminal trespass in the second degree and unauthorized use of a vehicle, both misdemeanors, and arraigned in East Hampton Town Justice Court later that morning before being released on their own recognizance. 

An uninvited guest at a birthday party at the Maidstone Beach Park pavilion in Springs was taken away in handcuffs on Aug. 12. 

Juan Pablo Farez of East Hampton, 33, who police said was angry when asked to leave the party, allegedly scratched the exterior of a 2009 Jeep Liberty with a key on its passenger and driver’s-side panels as well as the front grill and bumper, causing $2,000 in damages. Delilah Yupa-Bustan is the Jeep’s owner.

Mr. Farez was charged with criminal mischief in the second degree, a felony, at 9:52 p.m. Justice Lisa R. Rana released him on $1,000 bail.  

An East Hampton man was charged in a domestic violence incident last week. Edgar M. Quishpe-Arias, 29, was at home on Springs-Fireplace Road when he allegedly grabbed a woman around the throat and applied pressure, causing her pain and difficulty breathing. It happened on Aug. 15 at about 11:15 p.m., police said, and he was arrested about 45 minutes later. He was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation. Justice Rana released him later that day on his own recognizance. 

A 17-year-old East Hampton boy, a passenger in a 2004 Chrysler, was arrested on Aug. 7 on Maidstone Park Road at about 3:45 a.m. on two drug-related charges, criminal possession of stolen property in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Police said he had a wooden cigar box on the front passenger seat containing an e-cigarette with a cartridge containing a brown substance that later tested positive for marijuana. Police also found a plastic baggy with a green leafy substance; it proved to be marijuana. 

The teen, whose name was withheld because he is eligible for youthful offender status, was released with an order to appear in Justice Court next Thursday.

Rolando Alexander Martinez-Valladares, 24, of Montauk was charged on Aug. 9 with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was in a 2012 Honda that was pulled over on Old Montauk Highway, near Cleveland Drive in Montauk, at 9:18 a.m. 

Police said he had three plastic bags of marijuana in an open backpack and two burnt cigarettes containing a green leafy plant-like substance in the center console cup holder. Five round pills stamped “Watson 749” were later identified to be acetaminophen and oxycodone hydrochloride in clear Ziploc bags in the backpack.

He was released on an appearance ticket with $150 bail, and is due back in court on Aug. 30. 

Gaudencio Flores, 32, of the Bronx, was charged with false personation, a misdemeanor, on Sunday at about 1:30 a.m. Town police said he was in front of 104 North Main Street, near Collins Avenue, when he was pulled over. Police said he told them his name was Carlos Flores and that he was 34. Police advised him that if he was found to be lying he would be charged with the misdemeanor. Justice Tekulsky released him on $200 bail. 

Dante Ricci, 44, of Montauk was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree on Aug. 10 in Montauk. Police said they found two small clear Ziploc bags containing a white powdery substance that later tested positive for the presence of cocaine in his left pants pocket. He was released on $50 bail and ordered to appear in court on Sept. 13.
